Today marks the beginning of the 2014 Winter Olympic games in Sochi, Russia. The Olympics are an amazing display of sportsmanship, determination, and courage. The competing athletes have trained their whole lives for the chance to represent their country. Their experience at the Olympic Games is one they will treasure for the rest of their lives. This year we will be bringing the spirit of the Olympics into our classroom. We will be tracking medals won, graphing data, learning about the participating countries, and researching athletes and their sports. Next week you will be choosing an athlete to research and write a biography on. As you research your athlete you will learn about the ways that he/she models sportsmanship, determination, and courage. Get Ready! Check out the videos below to help you get into the Olympic spirit:
Watch the games live! NBC is the official broadcasting station for the Olympics. They will have continuous coverage for the next two weeks. You can also watch live events online. On the website you can also find information about each sport, the competing athletes and as up-to-date medal count. 1st Assignment - Homework! AHHH!
