I have been working my way through the student's "Winn-Dixie" projects and I am impressed with their creativity! I hope to finish grading them over the long weekend and will send them home next week. Interactive Notebooking! This week we began creating interactive notebooks! Each student has a composition book that they use to take notes during lessons. Our notes have now become interactive as students create cards, flaps, and folds to creatively organize information. This week we focused on using the ACE strategy to write responses to text: A= Answer the question by restating the question, C= Cite text evidence that clearly supports your answer (be a "text-talker"), E= Explain how the text evidence supports your answer. Students used ACE frames to answer questions about "The Raft" by Jim LaMarche. The ACE strategy helps students support their answers with details and examples from the text, which is an essential Common Core skill. As a result, I saw a big improvement in the quality of student responses this week!
