In math this week we worked on solving double-digit multiplication problems, multiplication and division fact families, and division fact fluency. It is important for students to know their math facts with automaticity. This will help prepare them to solve more complicated problems in the future. In literacy this week we worked with non-fiction selections. We discussed the structure of non-fiction text and the way information is presented to the reader. We also revisited fact and opinion, this time focusing on the clues in the text that helped to determine wether it was a fact or an opinion. Yesterday students were given the Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA). All students did well and showed progress from their last DRA in the spring. Your child's DRA score will be on their report cards which go home next week. If you have any questions about your child's score or the assessment in general we can discuss them at conferences. In social Studies this week students worked with maps online to reinforce map skills taught in class. Check it out here: Student Assignments Blog
